How does Educake use my child's data?

A guide to Educake's privacy and data protection for parents

What does Educake do?

Educake provides formative assessment (homework and quizzes) to schools. We provide a bank of questions that are written and quality controlled by subject specialists and teachers. Your child’s teacher will create a quiz out of our questions, and when your child logs in and answers the questions, they are automatically marked. Your child can see the answers straight away, so they get immediate feedback. Your child’s teacher can view the results, and can leave feedback for your child. Your child’s teacher can also override a mark that Educake has given.

What data does Educake keep?

In order to keep track of your child’s quiz results and ensure that they are private, your child’s school will create an account in Educake for your child. This requires us to process some of your child’s data. We process only what's necessary. The table below shows the data we process related to your child:

How is my child's data protected?

Your child's data is stored on secure AWS (Amazon Web Services) servers in London, UK. The data is encrypted both when it's in storage and when it's in transit to a teacher's or child's computer.

Educake shares a very limited amount of data in order to operate our organisation and provide our service to your child's school. For example, if your child emails our customer support team, your child's email would then be shared with Google, who we use for our email and work productivity tools. We never sell your child's data and we do not market to children.

You can read more about the security measures we take in our privacy policy.

Who can see my child's data?

Teachers and staff at your child's school can see your child's account details and quiz activity. They can't see quizzes your child has set for themself. Students cannot see each others' data. Educake staff can see children's data if it is relevant to their job. All Educake staff are DBS checked and have access to only information that is necessary for their role.

What control do I have over my child's Educake data?

Educake processes your child's data on behalf of your child's school. If you would like to remove your child's data from Educake or receive a copy of the data that Educake has related to your child, please contact your child's school. The school will contact us and we will carry out the request.
