What does the Analyse Results page show?
A guide to Educake's new insights tool
We want to help you get useful insights from Educake quizzes. After talking to teachers, middle leaders, and SLT to understand what schools really need, we're excited to roll out our new Analyse Results page.
The super short summary
-
(A) Find students and curriculum areas: click on column and row headings to zoom in on them
-
(B) See different views of data:
-
Percent correct, colour-coded in a red-amber-green (RAG) scale
-
Relative strengths and weaknesses flagged for quick identification
-
Total questions answered, in a heat map
-
-
(C) See different types of work: Use filters to see just independent revision or just homework.
Percent correct
This view shows the average percent of questions correct. It includes every attempt at a question. If you want to see just teacher-set work or just student-set work, you can use the filters on the left.
Features
-
Scores are RAG colour-coded so you can quickly see differences.
-
Scores are flagged if they're higher or lower than expected.
-
The stacked bar graph shows you the spread of student scores. Hover over a colour band to see exactly how many students scored in that range.
-
If a student or group hasn't answered many questions yet, you'll see their score but it will be grey to show that it's still early days.
-
Click on any score to see total questions answered and a score breakdown.
Examples in use
Extra support needed: A class has similar average scores in every topic, but one of the topics has more red in its stacked bar chart. This means there are some students who are struggling with that topic, and they might have gone unnoticed if you were just looking at the class average.
Time for praise: A student has got 58% in a topic, which is a typical score for them. However, there is an arrow up next to the score. You check the national average and see that it's much lower for this topic than for others. That means that lots of other students' scores were lower for this topic, but not this student's. This might be a personal strength, or they might have
Strengths and weaknesses
This view highlights students' personal strengths and weaknesses. It does lots of comparisons and calculations in order to answer two questions:
-
Is this a good score for this student or group?
-
How does this score compare to other students' scores in this year group?
Features
-
Relative strengths are flagged with an up arrow
-
Relative weaknesses are flagged with a down arrow
-
When looking at a group of students, the stacked bar graph shows you the spread of their results. If a topic area is a personal weakness for more students than usual, the red bar will be larger.
-
Click on any cell to see more detail, including the score and how many questions were answered
Examples in use
A teacher might need support: You see that quite a few students in 11E3 have Macbeth as a personal weakness. That might mean that the teacher of 11E3 could use some CPD or support with the subject matter.
Your scheme of work might need tweaking: You see that quite a few of the year 10 classes have Electromagnetism as a personal weakness. This might mean there's a problem with the order your department is teaching the curriculum.
Questions answered
This view shows the total questions answered. It's colour-coded like a heat map so you can quickly see where students are spending their time, or where staff are setting the most work.
Features
-
The darker the purple, the more questions answered
-
See total questions, revision only, or homework only
Examples in use
A student is only revising the subjects they like: You're looking at your subject and you filter to student-set questions only. If you see that a student has a dark number for only one of the units, they might just be repeating the same few topics. They could use some encouragement to practice their weaker areas too.
Reports
Every piece of data has context. You can click on any figure in Analyse Results and see a visual report with more information about it, including:
-
how the student or group's score compares to the national average
-
how this particular performance compares to the student or group's usual performance
-
how many questions this student or group has answered
-
how many of those questions were set themselves
Click "View printable report" to see a printable PDF version with even more insights, like:
-
a breakdown of the topics in that curriculum area
-
a scatterplot of students in the class or year
We're gradually rolling out Analyse Results to schools, but if you'd like it straight away you can email us on support@educake.co.uk and we'll switch it on for you.
If you've already got the new insights tool, we'd love to hear what you think! Whether it's been helpful for you or there's something you think is missing, send us your feedback at support@educake.co.uk.
